The interesting thing about the people I met in Rome is that almost none of them were there simply because they wanted to learn Italian. Most of them were there for different reasons, escaping different things, or trying to find something. Amongst my friends alone, there was someone who was there following the breakup of a seven year relationship and wanted to try something completely new, someone who had self esteem issues and felt happier being away from their home town because it made them feel liberated and like a new person, and someone who wanted a year off before knuckling down to the pressure of studying an intense degree.
I, of course, fit in perfectly with this, being someone who is becoming more and more dissatisfied with life in London and keen to try life somewhere else. Just breaking out of my everyday routine made me feel a thousand times happier, and meeting people who knew nothing about me and took me at face value was incredibly liberating. Bring on the move…
